EftRoU 114: vicious babe-a-licious mermaids

Sorry for the late post this week folks. The U.S. holiday got the best of me. I took Monday off and just plain forgot to post the show on Sunday. Enough with the excuses!

On this week’s show Shady and I  discuss The Mechanic on DVD as well as Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides and The Hangover Part II in  theaters as of this positing. Sit back and enjoy as we find out why we have differing opinions on these fine films.

The Mechanic Movie

CBS Films - The Mechanic

This week’s DV-Debrief is based on a 1972 Charles Bronson movie called, of all things, The Mechanic. This time Jason Statham is in the lead role with a great supporting cast that includes Ben Foster, Donald Sutherland and Tony Goldwyn. In this 2011 version of The Mechanic, we follow a hitman as he tries to make a wrong right. Be ready for lots of action, guns, cars, and fighting! One might say it is more of the same from Statham.

Feature Flick #1

Pirates #4

Walt Disney Studios - Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides

If you have not seen the last installment of Pirate of the Caribbean you are doing just fine. Johnny Depp returns and Jack Sparrow, there should be a captain in there, while Geoffrey Rush returns as Barbossa in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. New to this version of the Pirates franchise is Penélope Cruz as the love interest and Ian McShane as the bad guy (Blackbeard). In Pirates number four, Sparrow and Barbossa embark on a journey to find the fountain of youth, only to discover that Blackbeard is after it too. Listen in and see if we were fans of this movie and then let us know what you thought of it by leaving a comment below.

Feature Flick #2

Hangover part 2

Warner Bros. Pictures - The Hangover Part II

That’s right – The Wolfpack is back! In The Hangover Part II everyone is back for more of the same. If you were a fan of the first Hangover movie you will enjoy this one as well. Once again Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms and Zach Galifianakis find themselves not remembering what they did the night before and have to re-trace their steps, this time they’re in Bangkok.  Listen in and see what we thought of this version of the hangover.

Thanks for listening to our show. We love that you listen to what we have to say. We would also love to hear what you think of the movies we discuss. Let us know by leaving a comment below. Take care and be well!

Until next time…

EftRoU 113: pay attention…

The week of adaptation happens now. We discuss a couple of different comics that have been adapted for TV and the big screen. The first is Black Panther and the second comic (really a manga) is Priest.

Marvel Knights - Black Panther

Marvel Knights: Black Panther DVD

The DVD that we review this week was originally a TV series on BET. Marvel Knight: Black Panther is based on the Black Panther comic. We discuss what we thought of the 6 series episode as well as if you should rent this or not. You will find some great voice over work by Djimon Hounsou, Alfre Woodard and Jill Scott. Plus if are not familiar with the Black Panther comic you will learn something new as Mike lays down some science.

Feature Flick:

Sony Pictures Entertainment - Priest

Our feature flick this week was adapted from a manga. Priest is a post-apocalyptic sci-fi that is set in an alternate world.  This world is ravaged by years and years (from the beginning of time) of war between man and vampires. A legendary warrior Priest from the last of the Vampire wars is now living among the human inhabitants in cities ruled by the Church. When his niece is taken  by a  pack of vampires, he breaks his vows and begins a quest to find her before they turn her into one of them. Paul Bettany, Karl Urban, Cam Gigandet and Maggie Q star in this movie. Listen to find out what the EftRoU crew think of this movie. See if we think it is worth seeing in the theaters or waiting for DVD.

EftRoU 112: sneaky dingos…

If you didn’t hear our first show of the double dose this week be sure to go back and check it out. We had a lot of fun this week recording two shows in row so be sure your podcatcher get’s them both. For our second show we hit on some memorable moments a list of 42 and the feature flick Thor.

Memorable Moments:

Before we share what this week’s memorable moments, I would like to show the candy that we try from down under. They’re called Musk Sticks here is a picture of the bag. I picked these up as a recommendation from a buddy of mine @dhaucke. See what Shady thinks of these lollies.

Musk Sticks Candy

Lollies from AUS

Okay on to our memorable moments segment. This we take on cartoons that had an impact on us. This is a fun one as we discuss some great classic cartoons and Mike goes on and on about “Race” Bannon from Jonny Quest. We also forget the name of School House Rock for a short bit (I know for shame, for shame). Be sure to tell us what some of your more memorable cartoons you watched as a kid, or even better what cartoons you watch today!

List of 42:

It has been a while since we have done a List of 42. If you recalled we talked about our list of top 42 comedic actors and listed them. We thought it was time to provide another list of 42. This time we give our list of top Summer Blockbusters. (well once again really 10 on the show, there just isn’t enough time to list them all during the show). We will provide the full list in the next few weeks. Look for a post soon.

Feature Flick:

EftRoU 111: awesome sauce…

Sorry we missed a week… but we’re back and ready to go. This week you get a double dose of EftRoU. Mike, Shady and I sat down for a couple of hours to bring you two shows at once.

In this episode I share bits about my adventures to Sydney, Australia in addition to all the movies and TV shows I watched while on the plane. It is amazing how focused you can get when you’re in the same seat for 15 hours and then another 13 hours. I enjoyed my trip and hope to get back sometime. I would love to hear if you have ever been to Sydney. Just let me know by leaving a comment below.

Smokey and the Bandit

Universal Pictures - Smokey and the Bandit

This week we decided to talk about a classic car movie, at least in our minds it’s classic. The EftRoU crew and I discuss Smokey and The Bandit. This film stars Burt Reynolds, Sally Field, Jerry Reed, Paul Williams & Jackie Gleason. If you haven’t seen it you must, it’s well worth your time and effort.

Fast Five

Our feature flick is also a classic car chase type movie, at least it should be, we discuss Fast Five. This is the fifth movie in the cannon of movies with the Fast and the Ferrous titles. All your favorites are back; Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Chris ‘Ludacris’ Bridges, Matt Schulze, Sung Kang and Gal Gadot plus Dwayne Johnson. During this movie the crew takes on a drug lord while at the same time trying to elude top government agents. Sit back and enjoy as we discuss this fun movie.

I would also like to send out a person thank you to Matt Ellis aka – @thrasherDUDE for helping me out while in Sydney. Twitter is a beautiful thing! Thanks to all the fans that are willing to help us out when we are on the road.
