Retro DV-Debrief:

Planet of the Apes

Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation

For you kids out there that are not familiar with the 1968 version of Planet of the Apes you can rent it from iTunes. But, before you do that, read what it’s about: An astronaut air-craft crashes on a planet in the way distant future where intelligent apes are the dominant species, and humans are the ill-treated and enslaved. The movie stars Charlton Heston and Roddy McDowall. Listen in a learn what Shady, Square Ross and I think of this classic film.

Feature Flick:

Rise of the Planet of the Apes

20th Century Fox

To stick with our ape theme this week we also discussed the new movie Rise of the Planet of the Apes starring James Franco. Rise of the Planet of the Apes is an origin story, where Will Rodman (James Franco) experiments with genetic engineering to save his father (played by John Lithgow) and ends up leading to the development of intelligent apes. Which begins the onset of a war for dominance! (dramatic music plays here) Other great names in this movie include, Andy Serkis, Brian Cox and Tom Felton plus relative newcomer Freida Pinto.

We would love to know what you think of these two movies as well as all the different Planet of the Apes. Tell us what your favorite is, even if it was the TV series. We would love to hear from you, so leave a comment below.

Until next time…
