#SDCC

So if you didn’t know this big festival of sorts that takes place every year in San Diego called ComicCon. Mike (EatSleepGeek.com) goes every year. So the crew thought we would ask him a few questions about his trip. It sounds much different from the one you hear about on Twitter, Facebook and news reports. On a side note EatSleepGeek.com has a new writer (Rob R.), check out his guide to summer conferences.

Catchall:

Marvel Civil War

Marvel Civil War

During the catchall segment most of the crew discusses a classic, okay I don’t know if it is classic, story about the Marvel Universe. In this series of comic books we find superhero against superhero, as the government works to get handle on all the super humans out their. It ends up dividing the Marvel Universe and you will want to pick sides. So sit back and enjoy as we discuss this great story.

By the way, please support the arts by going out and buying the trade back of this story. Search around for your local comic book shop and be sure to ask the clerk about the story. See what they think and compare it to what we think. Also feel free to let us know what your thoughts by leaving us comment.

Feature Flick:

Captain America

Marvel Entertainment - Captain America

Sticking with the comic book theme, this week’s feature flick is Captain America: The First Avenger. For those non-comic book readers this movie is about a young man who wants to serve his country and deemed unfit. Finally Steve Rogers gets to volunteer for a secret project that turns him into Captain America. This movie stars; Chris Evans (as Captain America), Hayley Atwell, Sebastian Stan, Tommy Lee Jones, Hugo Weaving and Stanley Tucci. Let me tell you, this is a must see film in the theaters, but don’t just take my word for it. Listen in to the crew and see what they think. Also be sure to check out the review Jess wrote.

Thanks again for stopping by. Towards the end of the show you hear a reference to our review of Thor and how Mike is concerned about the acting prowess of some starts compare to the others in the upcoming Avengers movie. After you listen to this episode be sure to go back and listen to our discussion for Thor.

Thanks again for stopping by, we really do appreciate you taking the time to listen. Until next time…

Review for Captain America…

Captain America

Captain America was very well done.  I am not big into the comic books, so I didn’t know a lot of the history behind this comic, however, as someone going into it without much prior knowledge, I thought this movie to be entertaining and fantastic for anyone.  These types of movies are typically done right in that regard. If you think you are not one for movies based on comic books, you should give it a try if you haven’t already.  At the same time from what I understand, you are not let down as a fan of the comics either.  I have been loving all of the movies done by Marvel and they sure know how to find some hot guys to play these superheroes!

This movie was one of my favorites by Marvel.  There was good action, story, humor, patriotism, and a pinch of romance that I love.   Captain America’s story is so different and fun.  Taking place in a realistic setting during WWII, I loved the idea of a skinny kid becoming a strong and sexy superhero.  Steve Rogers played by Chris Evans, wanted to help people and fight off bullies, but he, like many superheroes, had no desire to kill anyone yet had unlimited amounts of compassion.  You find yourself feeling that same compassion for him throughout the movie.  You might even get a little teary eyed.  It was exciting to slowly watch him move himself up in the world until people began to notice him for his bravery and heroic behavior.  When you finally see him in uniform fighting for the first time, it gives you that giddy happy feeling.

Red Skull

The cast did a great job bringing the movie to life. Hugo Weaving was one of my favorite actors in the movie who played Schmidt aka Red Skull.  He had just the right type of evil in him and played the role very well.  There was a perfect touch of comedy to the film which is what you need in a movie like this.  Colonel Chester Phillips brought up much of the humor with some clever dialogue pieces.  The role was played by another favorite of mine, Tommy Lee Jones, who I’ve always enjoyed watching and never lets you down with his witty remarks.  Also looking forward to seeing more of Samuel L. Jackson in the Avengers.

Captain America is up there in the top movies so far this summer.  It’s fun and entertaining for all ages.  The only other thing you need to know is that you must see it while it is in theaters.  Not a big fan of 3D, but I know it can be enjoyed just the same either way.  Can’t wait for The Avengers movie to top it all off.  Make sure you stay for the end of the credits!  This movie was five stars.. or how about five shields!!

EftRoU 117: hanging out with the locals…

Show number 117

So this week is going to be a short show as The Moderator and I went on a trip to Las Vegas. I would have lots to share with you but as the saying goes “What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas.” However we did take the time out to sit down with a couple of locals to record a show. We talked with David and Jonas to discuss the movie Green Lantern.

Green Lantern Movie
Warner Bros. Pictures – Green Lantern

Green Lantern is an origins movie. It is about a test pilot that is chosen to become a guardian of the universe by a ring, that’s right a ring (what do you expect from a super hero movie). This movie stars Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, Peter Sarsgaard and Mark Strong.

Like I said it’s a short show this week so, why not a short post.

We’ll see you next week when The Moderator and I are back at Stately EftRoU Manor.

EftRoU 113: pay attention…

Episode 113

The week of adaptation happens now. We discuss a couple of different comics that have been adapted for TV and the big screen. The first is Black Panther and the second comic (really a manga) is Priest.

DV-Debrief:

Marvel Knights - Black Panther

Marvel Knights: Black Panther DVD

The DVD that we review this week was originally a TV series on BET. Marvel Knight: Black Panther is based on the Black Panther comic. We discuss what we thought of the 6 series episode as well as if you should rent this or not. You will find some great voice over work by Djimon Hounsou, Alfre Woodard and Jill Scott. Plus if are not familiar with the Black Panther comic you will learn something new as Mike lays down some science.

Feature Flick:

Priest

Sony Pictures Entertainment - Priest

Our feature flick this week was adapted from a manga. Priest is a post-apocalyptic sci-fi that is set in an alternate world.  This world is ravaged by years and years (from the beginning of time) of war between man and vampires. A legendary warrior Priest from the last of the Vampire wars is now living among the human inhabitants in cities ruled by the Church. When his niece is taken  by a  pack of vampires, he breaks his vows and begins a quest to find her before they turn her into one of them. Paul Bettany, Karl Urban, Cam Gigandet and Maggie Q star in this movie. Listen to find out what the EftRoU crew think of this movie. See if we think it is worth seeing in the theaters or waiting for DVD.
