Memorable Moments:

Before we share what this week’s memorable moments, I would like to show the candy that we try from down under. They’re called Musk Sticks here is a picture of the bag. I picked these up as a recommendation from a buddy of mine @dhaucke. See what Shady thinks of these lollies.

Musk Sticks Candy

Lollies from AUS

Okay on to our memorable moments segment. This we take on cartoons that had an impact on us. This is a fun one as we discuss some great classic cartoons and Mike goes on and on about “Race” Bannon from Jonny Quest. We also forget the name of School House Rock for a short bit (I know for shame, for shame). Be sure to tell us what some of your more memorable cartoons you watched as a kid, or even better what cartoons you watch today!

List of 42:

It has been a while since we have done a List of 42. If you recalled we talked about our list of top 42 comedic actors and listed them. We thought it was time to provide another list of 42. This time we give our list of top Summer Blockbusters. (well once again really 10 on the show, there just isn’t enough time to list them all during the show). We will provide the full list in the next few weeks. Look for a post soon.

Feature Flick:

Thor Movie

Paramount Pictures - Thor

For all you comic book fans Thor is in theaters now. This movie is about the God of Thunder and how he was cast out of Asgard to live as a mortal on Earth with the humans. This movie is produced by Marvel Movies, once again be sure to sit around and check out the end (after the credits) so you can see the set up for the upcoming Avengers movie. The cast of characters for this film include Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, Anthony Hopkins, Clark Gregg, Kat Dennings and Stellan Skarsgård.  Tell us what you think of this film after you see it as well as hear our review.

EftRoU 108: political correctness running amok

We had the honor of having a guest again. Ms Cassi Perkins joined the gang to discuss songs that make us happy, a retro DV-Debrief of ‘Blazing Saddles’ and a feature flick discussion of ‘Your Highness’. Other voices you will hear on the show include Shady the Biker, Dillon 2.0, Mike Leach and myself.

The Catchall Segment:

Have you felt like sharing songs that make you happy, well we do so we decided to do it with the world. During the first segment of the show the EftRoU crew share some songs that put a smile on their face. Some of us had a short list and others had a list that could go on forever. Some of us (that means me) didn’t even know the right name of the artists of the songs that make us happy. So here is the correction, be sure to read this before or after you listen to the show. I mentioned the song ‘Fish Heads” and said it was Dr. Demento who was the performer, when in fact it is Barnes & Barnes who sing it. To learn more check out the link to their wiki entry.

Retro DV-Debrief:

Movie - Blazing Saddles

Gene Wilder & Cleavon Little in Blazing Saddles

How many of you remember the Mel Brooks classic ‘Blazing Saddles‘? If you have not seen this film in a while it is time to check it out. If you have never seen this movie you must see it. Listen in as we discuss how much we really do love this movie. Also learn how much we believe this movie could not be made today as well as how today’s youth just don’t get it and may have something wrong with them. In case you forgot this movie stars Cleavon Little, Gene Wilder, Slim Pickens, Mel Brooks, Harvey Korman and Madeline Kahn. It is a western spoof about a town that is in the way of the railroad. In order to grab the town’s land, Hedley Lemar (Harvey Korman), a politically connected loathsome person, sends in his lackeys to make the town unlivable. After the original sheriff is killed, the town writes a letter to the Governor demanding for a new sheriff. Hedley convinces the Gov to send the town their first Black sheriff. Bart is a sophisticated urbanite who has some difficulty winning over the town, but in the end they all come together to keep their town from Hedley.

Feature Flick:

Movie Your Highness

Universal Studio - Your Highness

When we were planning this show a while back we thought it would be a good idea to take on two spoofs. We thought it would be a cool to compare the two movies, but hands down we found ‘Blazing Saddles’ to be much better than this week’s feature flick ‘Your Highness‘. As you will hear in the netcast we all feel it might be better to see this movie on DVD. ‘Your Higness’ is written by Danny McBride and Ben Best, it is about a prince’s bride being kidnapped. That prince then goes on a quest with his lazy brother to rescue the love of his life. Besides being the writer Danny McBride also stars in this movie as the lazy brother and playing the not so lazy prince is James Franco. There is plenty of eye candy for the men in this movie, including the bare backside of Ms Natalie Portman and the lovely vocal talents of Zooey Deschanel. Please let us know if we are wrong about this movie by leaving a comment and telling us why you should see this movie now and not wait for DVD.

Hey don’t forget we are building a list of 42 Summer Block Buster Hits. Nominate your favorite summer blockbuster by leaving a comment on our Facebook page.

Until next time, take care,

EftRoU 107: the extra value show…

This by far has been our biggest show to date, we had six people in studio and one person calling in. Here is the list of everyone on the show, first our guests: Ms. Michelle Whitt and James Gralian (you may recognize James voice from our intro). In addition to Michelle and  James we also had our regulars on the show, Mike Leach, Shady the Biker, Dillon 2.o and Dano.

This week the EftRoU crew reviews, discusses and analyzes two different feature flicks. But before we did that we had a memorable moment sharing significant TV memories. As for the feature flicks we reviewed ‘Battle: Los Angeles’ and ‘Source Code’.

Feature Flick #1

Movie Battle Los Angeles

Columbia TriStar Motion Picture Group - Battle: LA

The first feature flick we discussed this week was ‘Battle: Los Angeles‘ staring Aaron Eckhart. ‘Battle: LA’ is about a soon to be retired Marine staff sergeant who leads a platoon of fellow Marines against a UFO invasion. If you haven’t figured it out the battleground… the streets of Los Angeles. I don’t have much else to say about this film other than – listen to the EftRoU crew discuss.

Feature Flick #2

Movie Source Code

Summit Entertainment, LLC - Source Code

The second feature flick we review this week is ‘Source Code‘ staring Jake Gyllenhaal, Michelle Monaghan, Vera Farmiga and Jeffrey Wright. When decorated  Captain Colter Stevens (Jake Gyllenhaal) wakes up in the body of an unknown man, he discovers he’s part of a mission to find a bomber. During his assignment he learns he’s part of a government experiment called the “Source Code.” As part of the mission Colter re-lives the same incident over and over again to gathering clues until he can solve the mystery of who the bomber is.

Let us know what you think of these movies, by leaving a comment. Tell us if you disagree or agree with what we shared. If we missed anything, just let us know.

Also be sure to check out James’ new venture called Podgeek.com, it’s well worth it.

EftRoU 106: why plastic surgery…

Hello to all our faithful listeners and new listeners, we’re glad you found us. This week on Entertainment for the Rest of Us we welcome our guest, from Las Vegas, John Hawkins (aka @VegasGeek). John joins Dillon 2.0, Mike Leach, Shady the Biker and me to discuss a DVD and a new feature flick. On DVD we discuss ‘The Tourist’ and this week’s theatrical release is ‘Sucker Punch’.

DV-Debrief:

The Tourist Movie

Sony Pictures - The Tourist

Ms Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp star in ‘The Tourist‘. Mr. Depp plays Frank an American tourist visiting Italy. Angelina Jolie is Elise  a woman who crosses Frank’s path while he is traveling by rail. While making a stop in Venice, Frank pursues a potential romance with Elise only to find himself being pursued by gangsters. Other performers worth mentioning in this film are Paul Bettany and Timothy Dalton. Although Dalton does not play James Bond in this movie, but if he did it might have added to it.

Feature Flick:

Sucker Punch Movie

Warner Bros. Pictures - Sucker Punch

This week’s feature flick is ‘Sucker Punch‘. This film was written and directed by Zack Snyder, the gentleman that directed ‘300’ and ‘Watchmen’, plus let us not forget ‘Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole’. In this movie it feels like Zach Snyder found a way to look into our minds to bring us our dreams of dragons, orcs, robots, samurai, tough fighting women with guns and fast moving planes all in one movie. This all plays out in the imagination of the character named, Baby Doll played by Emily Browning. The only real way to describe this movie is a lot happens and you just have to see it to believe it. The other main actresses and actors in this movie are Abbie Cornish, Jena Malone, Vanessa Anne Hudgens, Jamie Chung, Scott Glenn, Carla Gugino and Oscar Isaac.

Sit back and enjoy the show. Be sure to leave a comment letting us know what you think of the show or the movies. We would love to hear from you. Thanks again for listening.
