EftRoU 128: Dano stops by…

I haven’t really been motivated or energized to get this post done in a hurry, sorry about that. I have let life get in my way of getting our entertainment reviews out. In this episode you will hear a bit about Chrome and Chroma, an art show that our very own Shady the Biker participated in. We also touch on the NetFlix Starz Entertainment deal that didn’t happen. Our feature flick this week is Apollo 18.

Feature Flick:

Apollo 18

Dimension Films

Here is the Apollo 18 description from IMDB: Decades-old found footage from NASA’s abandoned Apollo 18 mission, where two American astronauts were sent on a secret expedition, reveals the reason the U.S. has never returned to the moon.

Thank you to Dano for stopping by to hang out with us and review this movie. Listen in and tell us what you think of the movie by leaving a message.

EftRoU 127: Paul Rudd’s Sack…

This week on the show we try a little something different. There where too many movies to see in the theater so we split the work up. Square Ross went to go see Colombiana Shady the Biker saw Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark and The Moderator and I took some time out to see Our Idiot Brother. I bet your asking yourself if you all watched those movies what did Mike see this week, well he went the DVD route and watched The Notebook, that’s right our manly-geek-man took on a chick flick. Listen in and let us know what you think of the format.

Short post this week, no pictures and no explanation of the movies. All we ask is you listen in to learn about who is in these films and what they are about. Plus feel free to let us know what you think of the reviews. Tell us if you agree or disagree by leaving a comment!

Until next time…

EftRoU 126: the picker on’er…

We have a great show for you. This week it’s all about the remake. Shady, Mike and I discuss the 1985 version of Fright Night as well as the latest Fright Night that just came out. Plus Square Ross shares his thoughts on the latest version of Conan the Barbarian. Feel free to let us know what you think of these movies after listening to the show.

Retro DV-Debrief:

Fright Night - 1985

Columbia TriStar Motion Picture Group

Have you ever found yourself wondering why Hollywood decides to remake movies from the past. You know the ones that you thought were cool when you were a teen. Well, we decided since there was a new Fright Night we would take a look at the original 1985 version. For those of you who don’t know about the Fright Night that came out in the ’80 let me tell you a bit a bout it. It was about a teenage boy who learns his next door neighbor is a vampire as soon as he starts telling people about it no one will believe him. It stars Chris Sarandon (as the vampire), William Ragsdale (as the boy next door), Amanda Bearse (as the girlfriend to the boy next door) and Roddy McDowall (as the vampire killer). Listen in as Shady the biker, Mike and I discuss if this movie stood the test of time. You may be surprised about what you hear.

Feature Flicks:

Movie Fright Night

DreamWorks Studios

Like I mentioned before Fright Night, the new version, is in theaters now. This time it’s about a teenage boy who suspects his new neighbor is a vampire. The plot is not that much different from the first movie. The difference in these two movies is the writing and the performances. In the new modern Fright Night you will find Anton Yelchin (as the boy next door), Colin Farrell (as Jerry the vampire), Toni Collette (as the mother to the boy) and David Tennant (as Peter Vincent the Vampire Slayer). Be sure to listen in to find out what we think of this remake. We would also love to hear what your thoughts, of this newer version. Let us know by leaving a comment below.

Conan the Barbarian

Lionsgate Studio

The other Feature Flick that was discussed on the show was Conan the Barbarian, not the 1982 version but the one that just came out. Square Ross takes this review on solo style. That’s right we sent Square out to the theater all by himself (not really his wife Jess when with him) to view this movie and then report back. According to IMDB this movie is a “… tale of Conan the Cimmerian and his adventures across the continent of Hyboria on a quest to avenge the murder of his father and the slaughter of his village.” It stars, Jason Mamoa, Rachel Nichols, Stephen Lang, Rose McGowan and Ron Perlman. Enjoy the review…

Thanks again for stopping by. It was great having you here and be sure to catch The Show live. Until next time…

EftRoU 113: pay attention…

The week of adaptation happens now. We discuss a couple of different comics that have been adapted for TV and the big screen. The first is Black Panther and the second comic (really a manga) is Priest.

Marvel Knights - Black Panther

Marvel Knights: Black Panther DVD

The DVD that we review this week was originally a TV series on BET. Marvel Knight: Black Panther is based on the Black Panther comic. We discuss what we thought of the 6 series episode as well as if you should rent this or not. You will find some great voice over work by Djimon Hounsou, Alfre Woodard and Jill Scott. Plus if are not familiar with the Black Panther comic you will learn something new as Mike lays down some science.

Feature Flick:

Sony Pictures Entertainment - Priest

Our feature flick this week was adapted from a manga. Priest is a post-apocalyptic sci-fi that is set in an alternate world.  This world is ravaged by years and years (from the beginning of time) of war between man and vampires. A legendary warrior Priest from the last of the Vampire wars is now living among the human inhabitants in cities ruled by the Church. When his niece is taken  by a  pack of vampires, he breaks his vows and begins a quest to find her before they turn her into one of them. Paul Bettany, Karl Urban, Cam Gigandet and Maggie Q star in this movie. Listen to find out what the EftRoU crew think of this movie. See if we think it is worth seeing in the theaters or waiting for DVD.
